Looka pondered the remnants of the rotted log, scratching a deep groove into it with her long finger. By now her former mate was thousands of miles away, sucking up to the blue suited executives who ate further away at the jungle every day. He would wind up in some politically correct habitat (zoo is archaic and unenlightened) and eat fig newtons and rice cakes. He could rant all he wanted about the implied semantics of "prosimian", but she still found the word full of imperialist overtones. At least now she had the satisfaction of knowing he would have no one to debate.

Pongo would enjoy his new position of prominence, ignoring the obvious irony of his captivity. Apes, chimpanzees, even rodents would rail against their captors -- either by screaming, or throwing themselves against their boundaries, or pacing back and forth until they went insane. No doubt in his mind he looked down on the other animals, even the humans who he viewed as his servants. As the cargo net closed around him yesterday, his large night-seeing eyes shone arrogantly as he ascended from the forest. From now on, nothing for Pongo, but synthetic fabrics and processed foods.

Looka only wished she had dropped him sooner...

The servitors strained to hoist Pongo's rope-throne above their heads, as was fitting. But dammit, she missed him.
