Abigail wasn't the first giraffe to think of flying, of this she was fairly certain. There's no such thing as a new idea, that's what Pappa had always said until the lions finally got him, so maybe he wasn't the best person to be giving advice anyway.

Regardless, Abigail didn't care if she wasn't the first giraffe with an idea, she was going to be the first to do something about it.

The nice thing about being a giraffe is that, being that tall gives you a bit of perspective on life. She liked to think that she and her friends had a bit more of an understanding of how the world "really" worked. They didn't walk around all day with their noses stuck in the grass. Oh, no. They were conversing with their heads in the trees.

That was where she'd met Loody- Tookoo, her first bird friend, and it was from him that she'd first gotten the idea of flight. If being 30 feet tall gave her perspective, imagine being able to fly? She'd like to see those snooty lions keep up their little "King of the Jungle" act after that. "Kings of the Jungle" indeed. What the heck kind of title was that? This was a savannah. There were barely any trees, much less jungle. Stupid cats. Once she was flying, she was going to kick one of them in the head.

And then do it again... for Pappa.

Loody-Tookoo thought Abigail was silly, but it amused him to perch on her head and chatter. On her twentieth birthday, Mamma brought Abigail a cardboard box, closed over with twine.
