"How thoughtless of me," the rope though to itself. "How utterly selfish and arrogant I have been, believing that the burden is always mine to bear."

"Although I may have a fat little leprechaun which I must support, poor Larry has the added burden of supporting his fat friend AND me. What a right bastard I've been!"

This set the rope into ironic convolutions attempting to cleanse itself of its martyrdom and become a better rope for it. "It's about time I stopped feeling sorry for myself and started pulling my weight around here."

The rope thought and thought but couldn't come up with a good plan to help poor lazy Larry out. "It's hard to come up with ideas! I've been under a lot of stress lately and I feel like I'm about to unravel!"

"How am I supposed to make a snap decision when I feel like I'm being stretched beyond my limit?"

"That's IT! Unravel! If I unravel myself and let my flailing fibers grab hold of the well's walls, I'd be able to relieve poor Larry of some of his burden!"

The rope proceeded to tear itself apart in a productive, forward-thinking fashion. Louie the Leprechaun began to fall, realizing too late that perhaps he should have specified when casting his coin into the well that his own death was an unacceptable means of avoiding having to fulfill wishes and give out gold.

 Meanwhile, the poor fellow at the top of the well was very confused. When the rope disintegrated in his hands, he feared for his friend's safety. He tossed a coin, wishing his friend well in the well. Just in time, the rope caught the edges of the shaft with its strands, and the leprechaun dangled again in the starry expanse of the well.

Louie realized at that moment how exciting wishes really are and what a privilege it was to dispense them. He and the rope (now more of a net, really) clambered out of the well and set up shop giving out wishes to the world.
